For the beauty of the earth
for the glory of the skies
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
for the glory of the skies
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

of the day and of the night
hill and vale, and tree and flower
sun and moon, and stars of light;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
for the heart and mind's delight
for the mystic harmony
linking sense to sound and sight;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
brother, sister, parent, child
friends on earth and friends above
for all gentle thoughts and mild;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
lifteth holy hands above
offering up on every shore
her pure sacrifice of love;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
to the world so freely given
for that great, great love of Thine
peace on earth, and joy in heaven;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

ReplyDeleteMelanie, since you didn't leave a credit for that lovely poem, I'm going to assume you wrote it. It certainly is of your ability. I am so proud of the beautiful, inside and ouside, young lady you have become! You do a beautiful blog!
Actually, I first heard it as a song. It is called, "For the Beauty of the Earth," and the hymn text was written by Folliott Pierpoint in 1864. The music was written for it by Conrad Kocher in 1838. I have to admit that the only vocal version I have heard is by Barlow Girl, but it is beautiful, although they don't sing all of the verses.
ReplyDeleteI may have heard Barlow Girl sing it, but definitely heard it as a hymn.
ReplyDeleteOk, I'll hold onto the bread machine; maybe I can try the rolls recipe. Boy, my mouth water remembering yours.
